Collaborative Partnership of Spectrum Color Gel School & Chapman

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This course provides students with comprehensive, hands-on training in fiberglass repair and gel coat application techniques used throughout the marine industry. From foundational concepts to advanced color matching using the Spectrum Color Eye technology, students will graduate with the skills and confidence to perform professional-grade marine surface work. No prior marine or industry experience is required — this course is specifically designed to be accessible to those entering the trades for the first time.

Full Course Description

     

    Over four full days of instruction and applied practice, students will develop skills across the following areas:

     

    Day 1 — Foundations & Surface Repair

    • Safety protocols, PPE requirements, and workstation setup
    • Tools, materials, and catalyst chart review
    • Identification and repair of scratches, dock rash, and gouges
    • Wet sanding and buffing techniques
    • Air void radius repair and fill-and-spray application
    • Screw hole repair and patch paste techniques

     

    Day 2 — Fiberglass Repair & Advanced Techniques

    • Continuation of screw hole and patch paste repairs
    • Outer radius work and full fiberglass panel repair
    • Sanding, prep, and spray application of fiberglass repairs
    • Gibco non-skid application
    • Lunch & Learn: GTECHNIQ product demonstration and discussion

     

    Day 3 — Review, Finishing & Multi-Color Spray

    • Review and completion of all open repairs from Days 1 and 2
    • Two-color spray techniques
    • Final finishing and quality inspection of all repair work

     

    Day 4 — Color Matching & Certification

    • Introduction to color matching and the Spectrum Color Eye technology
    • Setup, installation, and feature overview of the Spectrum Color Eye
    • Guided color matching exercises using standard and sample comparisons
    • Session wrap-up, Q&A, and distribution of certifications

    • Minimum student age 16
    • Registration Form completed and signed
    • Provision of official photo ID with registration

    • Class requires a minimum number of Ten (10) students

    • Payment of full tuition is due with the completed and signed Registration Form and a copy of an Official Photo ID.
    • Tuition includes books, supplies, and laboratory fees.
    • Tuition does not include housing, board, or transportation.
    • All costs are payable in U.S. currency only.
    • The Chapman School accepts Discover, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
On-campus Housing Starting at $80/Night

    Student Housing

    Description
    Campus housing consists of dormitory apartments. Each unit contains a bedroom, a convertible living room/bedroom, a bath, a kitchenette, and a covered porch. The number of students per unit during this program is a maximum of three. All units are air-conditioned, fully furnished, and equipped with a refrigerator, countertop range, and cooking utensils. Housing is offered on a space-available basis. The School is not responsible for the loss of any personal property. Sorry, no pets.

    Housing Fees: (Shared Rate)

    Housing fee includes utilities.

    Housing Refunds

    • Housing Fees are due 30 days prior to the start of class.
    • If a student cannot attend the class in which he or she is registered, housing fees are refundable.
    • Once a student moves into the facilities, no fees will be refunded.
    • If a credit card was used as the original method of payment, a convenience fee of 3.0% of the total amount charged will apply for all refund transactions.
    • In the event any student does damage to the accommodations, he or she will be responsible for the replacement cost and labor required to repair the damaged Chapman School property.
    • Students must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by an adult.
Certification

    Upon successful completion, students will receive a Fiberglass & Gel Coat Correction Certificate issued through Chapman School of Seamanship and Spectrum Color Gel School

     

Refund Policy
      • If the application for Registration is not accepted by the School, all payments made by the applicant will be refunded.
      • If cancellation is requested within three (3) business days after signing the Registration Form, all payments will be refunded in accordance with the buyer’s right to cancel.
      • If the School cancels the program due to insufficient student enrollment, I may be rescheduled to a future class, or all payments made will be refunded.
      • In the event that I am unable to attend the class for which I am registered the following change/ refund policy will apply:
        1. If cancellation is requested more than three (3) business days after signing the Registration Form but, before the beginning of classroom instruction, the applicant is obligated for the non-refundable Tuition.
        2. Where notice is provided to the School more than fourteen (14) days before the start of class, a student may transfer to another class (if available), upon payment of a $50.00 transfer fee.
        3. Where notice is provided to the School less than 14 days before the start of class to cancel, or if the applicant does not arrive for the scheduled class, or if the applicant wishes to withdraw from class once classes have begun, the applicant may be obligated for the full amount of the tuition.
      • If a credit card was used as the original method of payment, a convenience fee of 3.0% of the total amount refunded will apply for all transactions.
      • Applicable refunds are made within thirty (30) days.

      Other Travel Considerations

      If you are traveling to the School from outside of Florida we strongly suggest you purchase refundable airfares, or arrange trip cancellation insurance.
