Founded by the late Charles F. Chapman and the late Glen D. Castle, the Chapman School has trained over 30,000 students since opening its doors in 1971. Since its inception, the School has grown from a single vessel to a modern campus of classrooms, labs, dormitories, and large training fleet – both power and sail. The Chapman School is a world-renowned boat school that encompasses 9 waterfront acres in South Florida, located just minutes by water from both the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and the Atlantic Ocean.

Founded in 1971, Chapman School of Seamanship provides certification for professional mariners, and safe boating instruction for recreational boaters, through ‘learn at the helm’ and classroom instruction.
The premier maritime educational institution that meets the evolving and expanding training and certification needs of tomorrow’s mariners.
The Chapman School is a full-service boating school that maintains a fleet of power vessels for teaching practical, underway boating skills. All vessels in the training fleet come from contributions to our Boat Donation Program for the benefit of our students.
We emphasize Learn At The Helm boating experience for all of our programs whether youth, adults, career or recreation. We can help you achieve your goals!
